LOWER MANHATTAN — New artistic renderings of the 9/11 Memorial Museum were released Thursday as the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation announced it has approved $2.29 million in funding to help the facility cover costs.

So far the museum has raised more than $366 million from more than 170,000 individual contributions, and is still seeking to raise $18 million more.

"One of the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation's chief responsibilities is to ensure the completion of a fitting memorial to those we lost on 9/11, a world class space that ensures we never forget how the world was transformed that day," said LMDC Chairman Avi Schick.

The museum will include exhibitions that detail the "context and aftermath" of 9/11, as well as a memorial exhibition that will honor the lives of each victim, the LMDC said in a statement.

The new funds will go toward developing a primary exhibition based on audio recordings from attack survivors.

The museum is scheduled to open next year

"This will leave a great legacy for generations to come," said Community Board 1 Chairwoman Julie Menin.
