SOHO — Fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg is bucking the bad economy by opening a new retail in SoHo this summer, Women’s Wear Daily reported.
The designer signed a lease for a second Manhattan shop, which will open in a 2,000-square-foot space on Wooster Street in July, WWD said. The store is meant to be a “lab” featuring the brand’s latest collections, along with experimental pieces.
The company's flagship store is based in the Meatpacking District.
Von Furstenberg has been involved with several local issues, including helping fund the High Line and lending her support to a campaign to Save the Garment Center, which aims to preserve the area of Midtown that has been a fashion manufacturing hub since the early 20th century.
Her company hopes to add 20 new stores worldwide in the next five years, including eight in the U.S.
