MANHATTAN — State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo is back on top with New York voters following a drop in approval ratings because of his involvement in an investigation into Governor David Paterson, a poll released Friday said.

The Marist Poll revealed that Cuomo's approval rating sits at 61 percent, up 54 percent from a March 9 poll that indicated voters felt the probable gubernatorial candidate should recuse himself from the investigation into Gov. Paterson's involvement in a top aide's domestic abuse scandal.

Sixty-six percent of voters think Cuomo can help solve the state's woes, while only 22 percent said he would be part of the problem, the poll said.

“Voters are looking for someone who can turn state government around, and most plan to look no farther than Andrew Cuomo,” said Dr. Lee M. Miringoff, director of the Marist Poll.
