MANHATTAN — "Will & Grace" co-star Megan Mullally has abruptly left the cast of an upcoming Broadway show only two and a half weeks before it was set to begin previews.
The first preview performance of "Lips Together, Teeth Apart," a comedy about two couples celebrating Fourth of July weekend on Fire Island, was scheduled for April 9.
The performance will be delayed due to Mullally's departure, the show's director, Todd Haimes, of the Roundabout Theater Company, announced in a statement.
Haimes said the opening night would remain April 29.
"We were surprised and disappointed that Megan Mullally had to withdraw from the production immediately in breach of her contract," Haimes said.
"Lips Together" playwright Terrence McNally added, "Megan Mullally's decision to withdraw at this late date is devastating."
Mullally's departure was rumored to be due to disagreements with the show's director Joe Mantello, the AP reported.
