MANHATTAN — Formula 1 honcho Bernie Ecclestone wants to bring a Grand Prix to New York in 2012.

But those race cars wouldn't be flying down the West Side Highway chasing yellow cabs, or dodging the crosstown bus through Midtown. Manhattan would merely serve as a backdrop to the race.

The last Formula 1 Grand Prix held in the United States was 2007 in Indianapolis, Ind.
