MIDTOWN EAST — A fire in a Midtown apartment building's laundry exhaust duct left a construction worker injured Thursday afternoon.
Twelve FDNY units responded to heavy smoke at 301 E. 47th St., near Second Avenue, at 12:46 p.m. after the fire was reported on an outdoor terrace near where the duct was located.
Fire officials said workers were installing a wood floor on the terrace with a heat gun. The laundry room duct, which was filled with years worth of lint, ignited, a fire official at the scene said.
The worker suffered minor burns on his hand and was taken to New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, fire officials said.
