MANHATTAN — Republican Joe DioGuardi, father of "American Idol" judge Kara DioGuardi, announced his run for New York's senate seat against current Senator Kirsten Gillibrand on Tuesday.

DioGuardi is a former Republican congressman from Westchester who served two terms in the 1980s.

At a press conference at Grand Central Terminal on Tuesday, DioGuardi said, "If you don't know who I am - ask my daughter," the Daily News reported.

DioGuardi was visibly frustrated at points during the press conference, as many of the questions asked of him were about his daughter, according to the News.

A similar situation occured during an interview on "Fox & Friends" Tuesday morning when the hosts focused on Kara's career, rather than her father's run for United States Senate.

"What am I, chopped liver here?" DioGuardi said with a chuckle on the television program.
