MANHATTAN — Mayor Michael Bloomberg denied rumors on Tuesday that animosity existed between him and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, adding that the press had manufactured stories that the two politicians had a cold relationship.

In a question and answer session with members of the media on Tuesday, a reporter asked Bloomberg if he was concerned that Gillibrand would retaliate against the mayor if elected in November after reading stories indicating that the mayor was “out to get her.”

“If I were her, I'd retaliate against the reporters writing them, because it couldn't be further from the truth,” Bloomberg said in response.

"All these made-up stories are just, they don't have any facts to them," the mayor continued.

Still, the mayor did not seem to be overflowing with support for Gillibrand, as he said that she is one of many people who would be a good senator for New York.

Two other possible Republican candidates who were seriously considering runs for the Senate seat, former Rep. Harold Ford, Jr. and media mogul Mortimer Zuckerman, both bowed out of the race against Gillibrand recently. Both have connections to the mayor, as well.
