MANHATTAN — Notoriously unfriendly New Yorkers will learn how to play nice if they want to get a discount in some taxi cabs starting Wednesday.
Taxi group ride stands in Midtown, the Upper East Side, and the Upper West Side will begin operating on Wednesday morning at 6 a.m. The program was set to begin last Friday, but was postponed due to last week's massive snowstorm.
The purpose of the taxi sharing system is to offer passengers traveling in the same direction a discounted fare, as well as help the environment.
The stands are located at W. 57th Street and Eighth Avenue, W. 72nd Street and Columbus Avenue, and E. 72nd Street and Third Avenue. All of the routes will converge on Park Avenue and continue downtown to Grand Central. Traveling from W. and E. 72nd Street will cost $4 per passenger and traveling from W. 57th Street will cost $3 per passenger.
The group rides will operate between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m., Monday through Friday.
