MANHATTAN — A wheelchair-bound man was arrested for allegedly placing an explosive device at the Metro-North station on 125th Street Thursday, MTA police said.
The legless man put the explosive device next to a waiting room bench near the ticket booth around 12:15 p.m., DNAinfo has learned. Perry Roosevelt, 57, was admitted for psychiatric evaluation, the Daily News reported.
A specialized canine unit and the NYPD bomb squad were called in to examine the suspicious package. Several M-80 firecrackers, shotgun shells and hardware including wires and bolts were found inside a Steve Madden shopping bag, MTA police said.
"It would be dangerous if ignited. We don't know if it was a planned prank. If it was, it would have been a dangerous one," said NYPD spokesman Paul Browne, the News reported.
Police said they identified the suspect using surveillance footage.
Service was halted at the station from 12:35 p.m. to 2:20 p.m.
