MANHATTAN — Angry liquor store owners traveled to Albany Wednesday to protest a law proposed by Gov. David Paterson that would allow supermarkets to sell wine, several outlets reported.

The governor's proposal, part of his 2010-2011 budget, could bring in over $250 million in revenue — big bucks to the fiscally challenged state —  from supermarkets seeking the license to sell wine.

New Yorkers apparently support the move. A recent poll found 58 per cent of voters are in favor of the proposed law.

But wine shop owners claim the measure would put them out of business and that thousands of jobs would be lost. Some also say it would increase underage drinking.
