MANHATTAN — What's better than Italian food and beer? Who knows, but soon you'll be able to get both handmade on site at a new high-end eatery and brewery in the Flatiron District backed by Mario Batali and Joe Bastianich.

The 8,000 square foot brewery and restaurant will open this summer atop Eataly, a massive new gourmet Italian foods market at 200 Fifth Ave., across the street from the Flatiron Building.

Four brewers, including Sam Calagione of Dogfish Head Craft Brewery, are collaborating with celeb chef Batali and restaurateur Bastianich on the new venue.

"The idea is to create an artisanal, old world Italian craft brewery that just happens to be located on a rooftop in Manhattan," Calagione said in a statement.

The beers will feature Italian and American ingredients and the brewery will use a copper-clad brewing system.

Calagione will be working with fellow Italian-American brewer, Vinnie Cilurzo of the Russian River Brewing Company, and Italian brewers Teo Musso, Brewmaster of Birrificio Le Baladin and Leonardo Di Vincenzo of Birra del Borgo.
