MANHATTAN CRIMINAL COURT — The boyfriend of Rev. Al Sharpton's daughter was arraigned on Thursday on charges he punched her twice in the face during an argument on 145th Street in Harlem.

Latrell Peeks, 23, faces assault and harassment charges. He allegedly hit Dominique Sharpton, also 23, and shoved her out of a car.

"He pushed [Sharpton] out of the car and fled the scene," Assistant District Attorney Daniel Brody said at Peeks's arraignment Thursday.

Family members who were in court to support Peeks said he was "raised right" and would not have laid a hand on Sharpton. The college student and former high school basketball standout has never been in trouble with the law before.

"He would never have hit a woman, especially someone who was his lady," said Leova Jenkins, Peeks's grandmother.

The 6-foot-7 Peeks played basketball at Trinity Pawling, an exclusive boarding school upstate and currently attends SUNY, his family said.

Sharpton is no stranger to the law. She was arrested with her mother, Kathy Jordan, and charged with resisting arrest and harassing police officers during a traffic stop last year.

"Why the f*** am I getting a summons?" Sharpton shouted at police on Oct. 30, 2009, according to court documents.

Peeks was released on his own recognizance is due back in court on March 24. He was ordered by the court to have no contact with Sharpton.
