MANHATTAN — Quarterback Mark Sanchez had succsessful surgery to repair the patella ligament in his left knee on Wednesday, according the New York Jets.
"Out of surgery. Doc says it went exceptionally well," Sanchez tweeted. "Thx to Dr Montgomery. Thx to family, friends & tweeps for the love and well wishes."
He's expected to make a full recovery and be healthy by the start of training camp this summer.
He has worn a brace on his knee since dislocating his kneecap during his junior year at the University of Southern California, but reaggravated the injury in a game against the Carolina Panthers in November.
Jets physician Dr. Ken Montgomery and orthopedist Dr. Elliott Hershman performed the operation.
Sanchez threw for 2,444 yards in his rookie season and led the Jets through an unlikely playoff run that ended in the AFC Championship Game.
