MANHATTAN — A last-minute subway service change could make for a confusing commute for straphangers returning to work Tuesday on the C and D lines.

Starting Tuesday, the uptown C train is running express between Canal Street and 145th Street, while the uptown D train is running local between 59th Street and 145th Street, the MTA said.

To catch the C train at 34th St., commuters must go to the A platform. For uptown service from 72nd Street through 135th Street, the MTA advises commuters to take the B and D trains.

Riders needing local service on the Eighth Avenue line from Canal Street to 50th Street should take the E train.

The MTA announced the switch Monday. Service will be affected through Saturday. The disruption allow the MTA to do needed repair work on the lines.

“We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this late change in normal service will have, but the work underway is vital to continued safe and reliable train operation,” the MTA said in a statement.

The work, which was supposed to begin on Feb. 8, was delayed because of last week’s snow storm.
