CENTRAL PARK SOUTH — The Parks Department said it is working with the NYPD to investigate a threat posted on Craigslist to poison dogs in city parks.

The Craigslist post, which has since been removed, complained of “too many dogs” in the city.

“I am leaving poison in bits of meat and gravy dog food, poison the dogs!! (sic)” the post said.

The Parks Department and the NYPD are investigating the threat.

“We are aware of the threat and although it may be a hoax, we are taking it seriously,” the Parks Department said in an e-mailed statement.

No dogs have been reported poisoned since the threatening post appeared online, but dog owners are alarmed nonetheless.

“That’s awful. I try to keep pretty tight observance of them," said Laura Wynter, who was walking her two small dogs in Central Park. "It’s hard though because they do pick up stuff from the ground.”

One Manhattan dog owner wasn't too concerned about the online threat.

“I wouldn’t worry about it," said David, who wouldn't give his last name while walking his golden retriever in the park. "I don’t think there’s too much likelihood I would let my dog eat any food on the ground.”

The Parks Department urges anyone with information to call 911 or 311.
