MANHATTAN — Sen. Chuck Schumer’s year-end campaign finance disclosures show that the senior senator has a whopping $19 million in the bank after getting $3 million in campaign contributions during the fourth quarter of 2009.
Schumer — who is not currently facing any serious primary challengers, despite a dip in his popularity ratings — spent about $300,000 between September and December last year.
Junior Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, who will likely face a primary challenger from former Tennessee Congressman Harold Ford Jr., spent over twice as much as Schumer during the same time frame. Gillibrand's campaign operating expenses totaled almost $619,000.
Gillibrand raised about $1.6 million in the fourth quarter and currently has approximately $5.2 million in cash on hand.
The Federal Election Commission released the campaign finance summaries upon request, but the full reports will not be available electronically for another couple of weeks.
