MANHATTAN — Former New York Giants receiver Plaxico Burress vowed to play football again in an interview with "NFL Today" on CBS, his first chat with the media since going to prison on weapons charges.

Burress is serving two years after he accidentally shot himself in the leg at Latin Quarter, a nightclub in Midtown.

In the interview, which will air before the Super Bowl on CBS, he reportedly tells Bill Cowher that he handwrote letters to the owners of the Giants, apologizing for the incident.

He also said he keeps in shape by working out three to four days a week, the New York Post reported.

“It’s not L.A. Fitness or Bally’s, but I do push-ups, sit-ups,” Burress reportedly said.

When asked by Cowher if he would play again, Burress reportedly answered: “I will play again.”

Cowher coached Burress for five years when they were both with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Cowher has since retired, and Burress was signed as a free agent to the Giants in 2005. He was released by the Giants in 2009 after the shooting incident.

Burress is expected to be released from prison in July 2011.
