New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan is out 50 grand, according to the team’s website.

The outspoken coach was fined $50,000 by the Jets organization after he was photographed flipping the bird to Dolphins’ fans in Miami following a mixed marital arts event last weekend. He was in town for the NFL Pro Bowl.

Ryan now faces possible fines from the league.

“It was stupid and inappropriate," Ryan said in a statement last Sunday. "I wouldn’t accept that type of behavior from one of the coaches or players, and it’s unacceptable from me. I apologize to the Jets organization, the National Football League and NFL fans everywhere.”

Ryan signed a four-year contract for $11.6 million when the Jets hired him in January 2009.

The former Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator has earned a reputation for often outlandish behavior, but he's not the first to get in trouble for flicking off fans.

Tennessee Titans owner Bud Adams was fined $250,000 last November for showing fans his middle finger after a Titans victory. That incident was considered more serious because it came after a game.
