MANHATTAN — The banged-up plane that hero pilot Capt. Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger safely set down in the middle of the Hudson River after a flock of geese disabled its engines has landed on the auction block.

The Airbus 320 will be sold "as is" in an online auction.

"Destroyed," began the description of the plane by online insurance firm Chartis. It went on: "Aircraft suffered severe bird strike event resulting in water emergency landing."

"Severe water damage throughout airframe. Impact damage to underside of aircraft."

Online bidding on the plane, which is being held on a lot in Kearny, N.J., will continue until March 27, 2010.

The Web site appeared to be down early Friday.
