MANHATTAN — Some of the most popular strollers used by Manhattan moms have been recalled because they can cut off children's fingers, federal safety officials announced Wednesday.
Pennsylvania based stroller maker Graco Children's Products recalled 1.5 million strollers and travel systems including the Passage, Alano and Spree models.
The recalled strollers, which cost as much as $250, have severed the fingers of at least five children, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The recall applies to strollers with a plastic, jointed canopy hinge with indented positioning notches that could cut fingers when the canopy was opened or closed.
Parents should immediately stop using the recalled strollers and contact Graco to receive a free hinge cover repair kit, the CPSC said.
The recalled strollers were sold at Babies "R" Us, Toys "R" Us, Kmart, Sears, Target, Walmart and other stores nationwide from October 2004 to December 2009, the CPSC reported.
