DNAinfo Morning Manhattan News Update

MANHATTAN — Good morning this is your DNAinfo update for Tuesday, Jan. 12.

It's in the high 20s now but we'll make it above freezing for the first time in a while. Partly cloudy and breezy today with a high of 35.

In your headlines, Anthony Marshall is free after a judge ruled he could be released on bail during his appeal. Marshall was sentenced to one to three years after being convicted of defrauding his mother, Brooke Astor's estate as she suffered from Alzheimer's.


Manhattan D.A. Cy Vance junior is looking into allegations that a former New York City police commissioner hit a pregnant woman with his car and then drove off. Police detectives had closed the case because they believed former commish Howard Safir didn't realize he had bumped into the woman. She was not seriously hurt. 

Jay Leno had some feisty words for NBC after the network canceled his seven month old show. Leno joked last night that he's leaving NBC prime time the same way he found it as "a complete disaster."
