UPPER WEST SIDE — A pre-dawn water main break on the Upper West Side closed Central Park West, snarled subway and bus service and shut off water for hundreds of residents Wednesday morning.
The break happened near West 105th Street sometime before 1 a.m. and sent water streaming down Central Park West.
Water also poured into the subway, flooding tracks and suspending A and D train service between 125th and 59th Streets and 145th to 34th Streets.
Commuters were told to use the 1, 2, and 3 trains instead.
Central Park West was also closed below 110th Street and M10 buses were detoured around the flooding. Lanes were gradually reopened through the morning, as frigid temperatures slowed repairs, according to CBS 2.
Roughly 200 families lost their water service which wasn't expected to come back until midday, 1010WINS reported.
By 7 a.m. train service had resumed with residual delays, the MTA said.
The burst main was a 12 inch pipe that was roughly 120 years old, according to news reports. The cause of the break was under investigation, ABC 7 reported
