MANHATTAN — The Mets have landed free agent slugger Jason Bay from the Red Sox in a four-year deal worth $66 million, according to news reports.

The deal is still contingent on Bay passing a physical. The Amazin's are expected to introduce their newest acquisition next week.

The Mets, who were plagued by injuries last season and who recently suffered spectacular late-season collapses, needed some power in their lineup. Bay, 31, who is expected to play left field, hit 36 home runs last year for the Red Sox and has averaged 30 homers and 99 RBI over the past six seasons, according to the Daily News.

Star third baseman David Wright managed just 10 homers last season.

It's the second time Bay's been in the Mets organization, the News reported. As a minor-leaguer, he was part of a multi-player trade with the San Diego Padres in 2002.

Bay was "excited" about coming to New York, his mother told the New York Post.
