Actress Brittany Murphy Dead at 32

Actress Brittany Murphy, who starred with Dakota Fanning in the New York film "Uptown Girls," died early on Sunday after she went into cardiac arrest. She was 32.

The actress, who is much loved for her roles in "Clueless" and "8 Mile," was reportedly discovered unconscious in the shower by her mother at a Los Angeles home belonging to her husband, British screenwriter Simon Monjack, according to TMZ.

It was reported that paramedics responded to a call from the home on Sunday. But Murphy was pronounced dead on arrival at Cedar-Sinai Medical Center where she had been taken for medical treatment.

TMZ reported that Murphy was taking several prescription medications for flu-like symptoms. But the cause of the cardiac arrest has not been confirmed.

The Los Angeles police have opened an investigation into Murphy's death..

Following her death, Murphy was remembered by her on-screen costars and friends in an outpour of Twitter messages.

Murphy’s ex-boyfriend, Ashton Kutcher, who starred with her in the romantic comedy "Just Married," wrote via Twitter: "2day the world lost a little piece of sunshine."

Lindsay Lohan, Jessica Simpson, Alyssa Milano, Kim Kardashian and Fred Durst also tweeted condolences.

The actress's spokesperson, Nicole Perna, wrote in a statement, "In this time of sadness, the family thanks you for your love and support. It is their wish that you respect their privacy."

Murphy is due to appear in "The Expendables," scheduled for release next year.
