MANHATTAN — The new year might bring a new strike from Broadway workers who clean 30 theaters in the district, according to the Daily News.
Members of the Local 32BJ of the Service Employees International Union were set to vote on a strike authorization Tuesday. If approved, the strike would begin after the New Year.
The 150 workers clean the stages of the hits "Mamma Mia," "Jersey Boys," "In the Heights," "Gods of Carnage" and "Shrek the Musical," the News reported.
The workers current contract expires Dec. 31, according to the paper.
Negotiations between the Broadway League and the union center on a $1.50 wage increase and changes to health insurance coverage.
Workers currently make $16 an hour, the paper reported.
In 2007, a stagehand strike closed Broadway theatres for 18 days.
