MANHATTAN — Could it be that former Gov. Eliot Spitzer will run for public office in 2010?
Spitzer, who resigned in 2008 following a high-priced prostitution scandal, is said to be considering a run for state comptroller, unientified sources told the New York Post.
Since his exit from Albany, Spitzer has cautiously returned to the public eye through a series of opinion pieces concerning the economy.
Before his fall from grace, Spitzer, as state attorney general, had a reputation for cracking down on Wall Street, earning the nickname the "Sherriff of Wall Street," the paper reported.
Tom DiNapoli currently serves as state Comptroller — he was appointed in 2007.
Spitzer previously mulled running against U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, and has had several meetings with top Democrats to discuss his run, the paper reported.
It was unclear whether Spitzer would self-finance a run or rely on Democratic donors.
