Big Apple Buzz: Billy Joel's Daughter Allegedly Attempts Suicide

Alexa Ray Joel, daughter of pop star Billy Joel and supermodel Christie Brinkley, was released from St. Vincent’s hospital on Saturday, after she was treated for an overdose of pills.

“She is going to be fine,” Joel said of his daughter, who lives in Greenwich Village. [newsday.com]

Off Broadway’s staple "Altar Boyz" will close in January after a near five-year run. The show will close at New World Stages in midtown until Jan. 10, marking a lofty 2,032 performances for the production. But the show has struggled financially in recent years. [variety.com]

This holiday season, CBS is airing somewhat off-putting public service spots that encourage male viewers to set up a Pap smear for female loved ones.

"Want to do something special for your woman this Hanukah?" says actor Josh Pais in one. "Schedule her Pap smear. Just a schmear could save her life. [nydailynews.com]

On-again off-again couple, Jude Law and Sienna Miller are seemingly back together. The pair, who are starring independently in Broadway shows, broke up in 2006 after he cheated on Miller with a nanny. The pair attended a party for Miller’s "After Miss Julie" co-star last weekend. [nypost.com]

"The Blind Side" ousted "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" as the box office favorite last weekend by slightly less than $5 million. [mtv.com]

Gossip Girl’s Blake Lively starred on Saturday Night Live to mixed reviews. EW.com said the show was funny one minute and disastrous the next. [ew.com]
