MANHATTAN — Mayor Michael Bloomberg spent more than $102 million of his own money to narrowly win a third term, according to news reports citing data released on Friday.

Bloomberg, who beat Comptroller William Thompson by just 4 points, widely outpaced his previous campaign spending records: he spent $85 million to win a second term in 2005, and $74 million in his first race back in 2001.

The $102 million breaks down to roughly $183 per vote, with roughly 557,059 cast for him, according to the New York Times. He spent roughly $20 million per percentage point.

That figure doesn't account for bonuses he paid top campaign staff, the New York Post reported. Those numbers will be released in January, the paper said.

Bloomberg has spent more money to win elected office than anyone else in U.S. history, the Times said.

According to the data, Bloomberg's campaign spent more than $18 million from Oct. 22 to Nov. 26, mostly on TV and radio ads, the Times reported.
