Department of Education Searching for Bed Bug Killer

By Nicole Bode | November 18, 2009 5:20pm | Updated on November 18, 2009 6:11pm

To: Bedbug Exterminator

From: The NYC Department of Education

Subject: Help Wanted

That’s the message the city’s Education Department is sending out in a job offer posted earlier this week on the city’s official contract bidding site.

The competitive sealed bid on the City Record seeks someone “for identification and extermination of bed bugs within the schools citywide under the jurisdiction of the Department of Education of the City of New York.”

The DOE job pays up to $99,999.99 total and the contract ends on Dec. 31, 2012. Bids are due by Dec. 7. The contract offer was originally reported by the New York Post.

Education Department spokeswoman Marge Feinberg said the offer was placed after the prior exterminator’s contract expired.

"It’s just a continuation of a contract that expired. Nothing new. We have to put it out to bid," Feinberg said. "It’s not like we have a rash."
