MANHATTAN – Mayor Michael Bloomberg better watch out—there’s another billionaire out there running for mayor.

“No third terms, vote for Burns,” is the rallying cry of Charles Montgomery Burns, a fictional character imported directly from “The Simpsons'” land of Springfield to ratchet up the stakes in New York City’s mayoral race.

In his singing stump speech, Monty Burns uses rhyming couplets to convey his platform, which includes “Subway fares, cause despair,” “Cheap electricity with nuclear energy” and “Tax the rich, throw the hipsters in a ditch.”

The humans pulling the campaign’s strings—a group called “The Concerned New Yorkers for Monty Burns Coalition”— issued a press release stating, “Mike Bloomberg has proved to be nothing more than a bullying, plutocratic czar under whom the fortunes of the city fell to ruin.”

But despite the seemingly anti-Bloomberg message, the group behind the campaign is gunning for both candidates, according to NBCNewYork.com.

The Web site reported that campaign spokesman Boris Rasin said, “We recognize Bill Thompson as our No. 2 enemy. Our no. 2 used to be the Naked Cowboy but he realized there was no chance for his campaign to go up against Monty Burns.”

Excellent.

The campaign appears to be part of a festival called “Art in Odd Places,” a progressive initiative aimed at pushing the boundaries of public space regulations.
