After 162 regular season games, the real baseball season begins in earnest tonight in the Bronx.

The Yankees will have ace CC Sabathia on the mound to open the American League Divisional Series against the upstart Minnesota Twins in the new Yankee Stadium at 6:07 p.m.

The Bombers have not won the World Series since 2000 and they were knocked out of the first round of the playoffs four times over that span.

After missing the playoffs last year, Yankee brass went out and dropped $243.5 million on pitching, picking up Sabathia from the Milwaukee Brewers and A.J. Burnett from the Toronto Blue Jays. That spending spree has them in much better position heading into the playoffs this year, the New York Times reports.
