LOGAN SQUARE — A bar replacing late-night dance spot Bonny's is set to welcome its first customers next week.

Described as a "no-frills, throwback"-style bar, The Native, 2417 N. Milwaukee Ave., will open Nov. 23, according to owners Jared and Carly Savocchi.

Patrons can expect 10 taps featuring beer from local breweries such as Revolution Brewing and Half Acre Beer Company, as well as a signature cocktail menu. The cocktail list (each $10) includes "The Native Negroni" — which is made with gin, Pamplemousse liquor and Malort — and the "The Northwoods Old Fashioned," which is made with brandy, Demerara and bitters.

The husband-and-wife-team are looking to "keep the integrity" of Bonny's, which closed in late 2012 amid a lawsuit between the owners and the landlords.

"I don't want to drive people away thinking it's some gazilionare coming in doing another concept bar. I'm trying to sort of keep it what it was," Jared Savocchi has said.

The result is 1970s-themed decor with booths, leather and dark-colored interior. Patrons will be able to listen to full albums on vinyl, play vintage shuffleboard bowling or hang out on the outdoor patio, which has room for 50 people.

Like Bonny's, The Native will not be a cocktail bar. And no food will be served aside from free popcorn and heat-and-serve pizzas to order.

Bonny's was known for its rowdy dance parties, its 4 a.m. liquor license, cheap drinks, red light, photo booth, good music and bad decisions. When Slippery Slope opened down the street in 2014, it also pointed to Bonny's as its inspiration.

The Native will be open Monday - Friday from 4 p.m.-2 a.m., Saturdays from 12 p.m.-3 a.m. and Sundays from 12 p.m.-2 a.m. It will not be open on Thanksgiving.
