BRIGHTON PARK — The students of Burroughs Elementary have finally received a donation of 30 Google Chromebooks to replace 30 iPads stolen in February.
Paid for with a $10,000 donation from ComEd, Burroughs unveiled the Chromebooks to students on Monday.
"It's nice to know there are people out there who want to jump in and help somebody," said Richard Morris, Burroughs' principal for the past 27 years.
On the morning before Valentine's Day, a thief snuck into John C. Burroughs Elementary School.
As neighborhood kids played during the school's open gym hours, someone got into a fourth-grade classroom. Inside sat a cabinet filled with 30 iPads used by Burroughs students.
The thief took every one of them.
Within days, another neighborhood business — Tripp Lite — stepped forward to help out the students of Burroughs School and made another donation: A Chromebook charging station.
The school's principal said he's grateful for the donations, and the students couldn't be happier to have the technology at their fingertips again.
"This is the way kids learn these days," Morris said. "It's more natural for them."
