Free Museums in Chicago on Wednesday When School is Canceled

THE LOOP — Looking for somewhere to pass the day now that school is canceled?

If you're not afraid to brave the cold, several Chicago museums have free admission for Illinois residents on Wednesday.

Illinoisans can get free access to the Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planetarium, the Field Museum, the Chicago History Museum and the Museum of Science and Industry Wednesday.

Free access to the Museum of Science and Industry runs all week, through Friday, with more free days the rest of the weekdays this month: Jan. 12-16, 19-23 and 26-30.

Adler Planetarium admission is free to residents on Wednesday, and again on Jan. 12-14, 19-21 and 26-28.

Shedd Aquarium is also offering free general admission on Wednesday.

The Art Institute's "Free Winter Weekdays" offer free admission to Illinois residents all day, every weekday starting Monday, through Feb. 10.

Basic admission to the Field Museum is also free Wednesday, and again Jan. 14 and 15.

Illinois resident free days at the Chicago History Museum are scattered throughout this month, including  through Friday this week, Jan 12-15, 19-23 and 26-30.

Free admission at most museums excludes special and touring exhibits.
