Blue Smoke BBQ to Open Battery Park City Location

BATTERY PARK CITY — Get ready, barbecue buffs.

Blue Smoke, the famed Flatiron BBQ joint, is opening its new Battery Park City outpost on Jan. 9, managing partner Mark Maynard-Parisi said.

The new Vesey Street eatery, sandwiched between the World Financial Center and Goldman Sachs' headquarters, will feature many of the smoky, spicy dishes that earned accolades at the original Blue Smoke on East 27th Street, Maynard-Parisi said.

"There's a pretty big overlap, with some added surprises," Maynard-Parisi said of the new menu.

The Battery Park City location, run by Danny Meyer's Union Square Hospitality Group, will start offering dinner Jan. 9 and will expand to lunch by the end of the month, Maynard-Parisi said. In addition to meat prepared with "magic dust" rubs and secret sauces, the restaurant will also offer sweets from Blue Smoke Bake Shop.

If the necessary permits arrive early, it's possible the new Blue Smoke will have a soft opening with drinks and bar snacks next week, Maynard-Parisi said.

The Blue Smoke is just one of many shops and restaurants that recently opened or are on the way to the Conrad New York hotel building at 102 N. End Ave, where renovations are nearly complete.

Next Tuesday, Meyer is opening a sit-down restaurant called North End Grill on the building's west side, with chef Floyd Cardoz at the helm. Cardoz, who just won Bravo's "Top Chef Masters," will serve up a menu highlighting fresh seafood.

North End Grill will initially open only for lunch but will expand to dinner later in January, the New York Times reported.

In the meantime, diners can get a taste of two more casual restaurants: Beans & Greens and Wei West, both located in the covered walkway separating 102 N. End Ave. from Goldman Sachs' headquarters at 200 West St.

Beans & Greens opened Monday and features made-to-order salads, soups including turkey chili and lobster bisque, baked goods and pre-made sides such as organic quinoa salad and sweet potato salad.

Wei West will have its soft opening on Friday, a manager said Wednesday, and will offer an Asian-fusion menu including banh mi sandwiches and sushi combos.

The complex also includes a popular Shake Shack that opened last spring, and Francois Payard Bakery and Artsee Eyewear, which opened in the Goldman Sachs building this fall.

Also on the way are Vintry Fine Wines, which appears close to opening; Bloom, a flower store; a new location of Battery Place Market; and Harry's Italian, by father-son team Harry and Peter Poulakakos.

A Goldman Sachs spokesman said most of the new shops and restaurants are scheduled to open in January.
