DOWNTOWN — Lower Manhattan's 1-square-mile has 50,000 residents and 300,000 workers, and now millions more eyes will be upon it after Delta Airlines began running a 5-minute video on Monday about the neighborhood on its flights coming into the metro area.
Sponsored by the Downtown Alliance, the video features Mayor Michael Bloomberg showing visitors the many things this Downtown neighborhood has to offer, from its waterfront and museums to its high-end shops and history.
The video is part of Delta Destinations, an in-flight video series that highlights neighborhoods worldwide.
“We are thrilled to share our growing, world-class community with people from around the globe” said Elizabeth Berger, President of the Alliance for Downtown New York in a statement.
The video will be shown on 17,000 Delta flights this month and on Virgin America’s RedHOT in-flight video program in August and September, where the Alliance said it will reach over 3 million passengers.
More than 9 million people visited Lower Manhattan in 2010, the Alliance said.
