INWOOD - A young woman was raped in Inwood Hill Park Friday night - the latest in a string of attacks there, sources said.
The creepy attack had women on edge.
"Not knowing what happened makes it scarier," said Inwood resident Maria Burton, 33. "Who knows who's out there and when they will attack again. Security in this park has been a problem for years."
The 21-year-old victim was sexually assaulted near the Dyckman Fields entrance to the park, according to the source.
Saturday morning, police were warning a local runners group about the incident.
The group, the Inwood Hill Runners, was formed in 2004 when a Juilliard student, Sarah Fox, was raped and murdered in the park.
Joggers were being diverted away from the northern edge of Dyckman Fields and through the Henry Hudson underpass near the trails because of the incident.
Last August, a female jogger was grabbed from behind and sexually assaulted.
After that attack, the Guardian Angels stepped in to patrol the area.
In February of that year, there was a similar incident in which a woman was excercising in the park and was attacked by man who dragged her into the woods.
She criticized police for bungling the investigation.
Both of those attacks were located in the northern end of the park.
