UPPER WEST SIDE — A burger joint that boasts 65 varieties of flame-grilled deliciousness is opening an Upper West Side outpost.
Island Burgers and Shakes, which already has a Hell's Kitchen location, will open at 422 Amsterdam Ave. between West 80th and West 81st streets in August, according to Winick Realty Group. Island Burgers will replace King Food Pan Chinese restaurant.
The restaurant's long burger list includes the Tijuana, served with Monterey jack cheese, bacon, guacamole and sauteed onions. Blogger NYC Food Guy described that culinary experience as a "gluttony at its finest."
The burger roster also includes the Mulberry Street (onions and peppers on ciabatta), the People's Choice (with Swiss cheese, mushrooms and onion) and the Napalm (a blackened patty with jalapenos, habanero sauce, barbecue sauce and cheddar cheese.)
Also on the menu are shakes, salads, and grilled chicken breast sandwiches called churascos.
Island Burgers plans to stick around. The restaurant signed a 10-year lease on its 700-square foot space, according to Winick Realty.
"Island Burgers and Shakes waited a long time to find the right market for their second store,” Alex Hill, the Winick Realty Group broker who represented the restaurant, said in a statement.
"This is a prime Upper West Side restaurant block, with neighbors including Jake's Dilemma and Brother Jimmy's, and Island Burgers and Shakes will make a great addition to the neighborhood," Hill said.
Island Burgers and Shakes joins a growing list of Upper West Side burger joints: Shake Shack at West 77th Street and Columbus Avenue; Five Guys and Mel's Burger Bar at Broadway and West 110th Street; and Five Napkin Burger on Broadway and West 84th Street.
