MIDTOWN — A taxi driver suffered head trauma Monday morning after crashing his cab into a building at Columbus Circle.
The 39-year-old driver was taken to New York Hospital after crashing into the LensCrafters store at 1804 Broadway at Columbus Avenue shortly before 5 a.m., according to an FDNY spokesman.
Officials said it wasn’t clear if there was a passenger in the cab at the time of the accident.
The cab remained on the sidewalk on the southeastern end of the roundabout at 6 a.m. Monday, its front end crumpled and the airbags hanging limp. Fluid leaked from the engine onto the sidewalk below.
The front window of LensCrafters had shattered completely, as had one of the front windows of Columbus Circle Wines next door.
