Writers from Global Writes of the Bronx, a nonprofit organization that promotes literacy, communication and collaboration among young people, will kick off the first of five poetry slam competitions Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the David Rubenstein Atrium near Lincoln Center.

The battle of words will showcase young artists from the five boroughs performing their original poetry to the theme “I have a voice."

The competition will include performances by professional guest poets. The compeitions will be judged by members of the audience and judges.

The final Grand Slam performance will take place Dec. 13 at at the Target Free Thursday Lincoln Center Poet-Linc Grand Slam Champion.

All events take place at the David Rubenstein Atrium, across the street from Lincoln Center, Broadway between 62nd and 63rd Streets

Seating is available on a first-come, first served basis.
