2 Men Impersonate Police, Beat Deliveryman in Stuy Town Building: NYPD

By Ben Fractenberg | September 26, 2017 3:45pm

MANHATTAN — Police are looking for two men they said pretended to be NYPD officers before pepper spraying a deliveryman inside a Stuy Town building and then stealing his backpack.

The two men, who were both wearing black T-shirts and black baseball caps, gained entry to 287 Ave. C  on Sept. 17 and approached the 39-year-old worker after he finished a delivery in the building, according to the NYPD.

The suspects identified themselves as police and asked to search the 39-year-old's backpack. The deliveryman refused and one of the men sprayed him before they both punched and kicked the 39-year-old, police said.

They then grabbed his bag and fled.

The deliveryman was taken to Beth Israel Hospital in stable condition.

An NYPD spokesman said police were not sure what was in the backpack or which floor the worker was attacked on.

Both suspects are about 30 years old and 5-foot-5, police said.

A general manager for Stuy Town did not immediately return a request for comment.
