UPPER WEST SIDE — A man was fatally struck by a train at 72nd Street, disrupting 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 service during the Thursday evening commute, officials said.

The man was hit by an uptown three train at about 5:26 p.m., according to the NYPD, MTA and FDNY. It was not immediately clear how the victim ended up on the tracks.

Another person suffered minor injuries at the station, an FDNY spokesman said, but it was not clear if that person was also on the tracks.

A passenger on the train said a conductor made an announcement after the man was struck.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I have bad news. Someone just jumped in front of the train," Krystal Charleston, 36, recalled an MTA worker telling them.

Charleston said she saw blood on the front of the train after getting off at the station.

The NYPD could not immediately confirm if the man jumped in front of the train.

Northbound 2 trains were running over the 5 line from Nevins Street to 149th Street-Grand Concourse as a result, as of 6:07 p.m.

Northbound 3 trains were running local from Times Square to 96th Street.

Both northbound 2 and 3 trains were bypassing 72nd Street.

Southbound 2 and 3 trains were running local from 96th Street to Times Square-42nd Street.

Northbound 5 trains were running local from Third Avenue-149th Street to East 180th Street.

Commuters could expect delays on the 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 lines.
