Car Thief Punches Driver, Steals Red Mazda and Crashes into Fence: NYPD

LOWER EAST SIDE — A car thief punched a man in the face before stealing his car and driving it into a fence late last month, police said.

The 29-year-old victim was standing by his red Mazda 4DSD near Orchard and Stanton streets around 4:30 a.m. on May 25 when the thief punched him in the face, snatched his car keys and hopped into the vehicle, according to authorities.

The thief then sped one block down Orchard Street before crashing it on East Houston Street into a fence, then clambered out of the car and fled eastbound on East Houston Street, police said.

The gender and age of the suspect were not specified, according to a police report.

No arrests had been made as of Monday and the investigation remains ongoing.
