BROOKLYN — Thieves shoved a man down a stairwell in a Coney Island building, breaking his skull and neck before stealing his cellphone, police said.

The 26-year-old victim, whose name wasn't immediately released, was visiting an ex-girlfriend at 2925 W. 27th St. at about 1:50 p.m. on April 20 when her current boyfriend confronted him along with another man and pushed him down the stairs, police said.

The man fractured his skull, broke his neck and suffered internal bleeding, police said.

The boyfriend, Ziair Mack, 22, took the victim's cellphone as he lay there unconscious, police said.

Mack and the other suspect then fled the scene, police said.

The victim was treated at Maimonides Medical Center, where he's listed in critical but stable condition, police said.

Mack, who lives on West 23rd Street in Coney Island, was arrested on robbery charges, police said. He was arraigned April 21 and held on $20,000 bond, records show.

Mack has been arrested more than 10 times since he was 16, but most of those records are sealed, an NYPD spokeswoman said.

He was convicted of attempted robbery in 2014 and spent the next two years behind bars, prison records show.

The second suspect, who can be seen in police video released Thursday, was described as about 25 years old, 6 feet tall and last seen wearing a black hoodie with dark pants and a red bandana around his head, officials said.

Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS (8477).
