TIMES SQUARE — The Crossroads of the World will usher in the spring season with a video installation inspired by the Japanese art of flower arrangement.

Sound of Ikebana (Spring),” created by Japanese artist Naoko Tosa, will air on Times Square’s billboards between 11:57 p.m. and midnight each night in April as part of the "Midnight Moment" series by Times Square Arts and the Times Square Advertising Coalition.

The video “uses the unpredictable natural phenomena of sound vibrations and colorful paint of different consistencies to create intriguing and mesmeric shapes that evoke the art of Ikebana — Japanese flower arrangement based around asymmetrical triangular forms,” a statement said.

Tosa will attend the 11:57 p.m. viewing of the video in Duffy Square on April 4. The Japan Society Gallery is partnering with Times Square Arts to present the piece.

“It seems only fitting that Tosa’s piece, which combines sound and vibrant color with international culture and history, should come to Times Square, where influences from all around the world settle into our colorful hustle and bustle,” Times Square Alliance president Tim Tompkins said in a statement.
