MIDTOWN — A robber hit two Midtown businesses in one afternoon, leaving empty-handed from one and nabbing cash from another, according to a police report.

The suspect struck on Feb. 7, hitting first at the Herald Square Gap store at West 34th Street and Sixth Avenue, police said. He approached a 40-year-old employee at about 5 p.m., pretended he had a handgun in his pocket and demanded cash, but he fled before taking anything, according to a police report.

He then walked into a Starbucks at 425 Lexington Ave. between East 44th and East 45th street at 8:46 p.m., where he repeated his earlier stunt, making it appear as if he had a gun in his pocket and demanding cash from a 31-year-old employee, police said.

This time the trick worked, and the employee handed over cash before he fled south on Lexington Avenue, police said. Police did not reveal how much cash the robber stole.

Police described the robber as being between 45 and 50 years old, standing about 5-feet-6 inches and heavyset, and wearing a Kangol hat, brown shoes, a blue Yankees jacket, and light pants, according to a police report.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS. The public can also submit tips on the website.
