MELROSE — A hospital technician was yanked from an elevator in a Melrose apartment building and beaten to death by an ex-con who was out on parole, NYPD officials said.

Bakary Darboe, 46, a father of six, was headed to class at Mercy College about 5:10 p.m. Thursday and taking the elevator in his building at 601 E. 156th St. when he was confronted by ex-con Junal Jordan, 40, sources and family said.

Jordan, who's on parole for a 2009 robbery and had been staying with his sister who lives in the building, dragged Darboe from the elevator and beat him to death, sources said.

Darboe, who worked as a lab technician at NYU Hospital, suffered head trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Jordan fled the scene but police found him a couple blocks away and took him into custody, sources said.

He initially told investigators that he had gotten into a fight, sources said.

Jordan hadn't been arraigned as of Friday afternoon, court records show.

Jordan, who's been arrested 16 times, was convicted in 1999 on drug charges and served six years behind bars, according to sources and the Department of Corrections.

He was convicted again in 2009 for robbery and spent the next five years behind bars until his parole in 2014, prison records show.

Darboe's devastated family said they're forever changed by Jordan's actions.

"This guy, he did something very bad. We can forgive, but we can't forget about it," said the victim's brother, Mbemba Darboe, 61.

Darboe was a devout Muslim and doting father, relatives said.

"Every time he came late, he helped me with my homework. He was very busy, but he always had time," said his 7-year-old daughter, Jakong Darboe.

He was also an active member of his religious community, family said.

"He could read the Quran and understand it and preach," his brother said.

"Anything in our community, he participated. We all feel it. We will not forget about him. He was a very kind man, humble. He liked everyone. He was a great man."
