Man Who Murdered Woman in Harlem Apartment Under Arrest, NYPD Says

By Aidan Gardiner | February 1, 2017 11:46am

MANHATTAN — A man who fatally shot a woman in the head in Harlem's King Tower Houses is under arrest, officials said.

Malachi Colon, 21 — who was out without bail after a pair of domestic violence incidents — was arguing with Natalie Vasquez, 24, before he gunned her down inside 1370 Fifth Ave., near West 114th Street, about 1:52 a.m. on Dec. 9, NYPD officials said.

The relationship between the two wasn't immediately clear, an NYPD spokesman said.

Vasquez, who lived in the housing complex, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Colon, of East Harlem, was arraigned Tuesday on charges of murder, criminally negligent homicide, criminal use of a weapon and gun possession, NYPD officials said.

He is being held at the Manhattan Detention Complex and is due back in court on Feb. 3, records show.

Colon has been arrested twice before on domestic violence assault charges — both of which were in East Harlem. The incidents took place on July 19, 2015, and again on Sept. 17, 2016, records show.

He's due back in court on Feb. 9, records show.
