QUEENS — A new bank branch will soon open in the heart of the Forest Hills shopping district, joining several other banks that have their outposts along Austin Street's busy commercial strip.

The Garden City Park-based Hanover Community Bank is slated to open its second location at 71-15 and 71-17 Austin St., replacing Dreams Boutique and Continental Pharmacy, both of which recently closed.

A representative for Hanover said Tuesday that the branch will likely launch in February. The branch was initially scheduled to open last November, according to the company's website.

The bank first opened in 2009 and boasts online that its total assets increased from $68.5 million in December 2012 to $327.6 million in June 2016.

In addition to numerous restaurants, clothing stores and walk-in urgent care centers, Austin Street is home to branches of First Central Savings Bank, Santander, Citibank and Queens County Savings Bank.

Several other banks, such as Chase and Bank of America, are located on nearby Continental Avenue, between Austin Street and Queens Boulevard.
